I see you. Scrolling through this post. What's up?
Birthday. My stupid Birthday.
My 22nd birthday was far more low key than my 21st, I was mostly just happy to go to bed early and sleep in till noon. That's what 22 will do for you.
Truthfully, the highlight of my birthday should have been hanging out with my friends and roommates, but really it was learning all of Keenan's Catholic School stories. I mean, accidentally going on a field trip to a commune/ cult is a pretty funny story and I am not going to tell this story because he does it far better than I ever could. I also was allowed to smash a plate at dinner, so all is well.
Life Update
Since the start of 2018, my designs and fashion work have really taken a back seat. I am not in any studio classes, so I am not forced to think about designing or doing any actual design; however, I am in a New Venture Entrepreneurship class that will be testing both my design and, primarily, business skills.
It hasn't always been a goal of mine to own my own business. In fact, if you asked my in my first entrepreneurship class, I would have told you that I am not only too lazy to own my own business, but not skilled enough. Now, two years later, I am designing and creating my own clothing line and looking to start a business, and actually going through the process of getting ready to pitch to investors. Its terrifying, but at least fear propels me to go out and do things.
The idea is one that I didn't have, but my mom has been pitching to me for years. After being involved creating clothing for women with ~less than glamorous~ everyday bodily issues, I realized that there is a HUGE gap in the market for women of a more distinguished age. So, I am creating a line of clothing specifically tailored to the needs of women going through menopause. It's not pretty, but hot flashes are miserable and if we've learned anything from Kris Jenner and Jennifer Aniston, its that beauty doesn't have an age limit, so neither should your clothes. My mom had to change her everyday wardrobe over hiking gear and athletic clothing when she hit menopause because her hot flashes were not only frequent, but volatile, and that's pretty common. It drove her crazy but as comfortable and moisture-wicking as athletic clothing is, its not the prettiest look or the most career friendly (luckily Momma is a preschool assistant, so she had a lot of forgiveness when it came to workwear.) So why not have both? With the technology that textiles has today, its is completely plausible to mix the technology and comfort of athletic wear with the business attire that a woman would need in her career, especially since women are pursing their careers even longer in life.
I am also in the beginnings and brainstorming of creating a VERY small online boutique. The idea behind is to make a hobby, a profitable hobby. I can start with repurposing clothing from thrift stores, wash them throughly, and create very unique and creative pieces that are one of a kind. It would be a one piece one size kind of deal, and I could do it at the pace that I would want. Most importantly, I would force me to experiment and test out fabrication techniques and my creative skills. Plus create cool things! Eventually, I would want to move to small scale manufacturing, possibly sustainable???, to create really chic and timeless pieces that are of high quality. My reasoning for this is that I have a hard time finding those amazing pieces that I want to wear everyday, or those basic pieces, that I need. Obviously this idea is in the earliest of BETA testing, so hopefully with starting the previous business the I mentioned, I will be able to eventually launch this one.
So to wrap up my life update, things are going as usual over all. I'm adding a lot to my plate and stressing myself, but we will see how it all pans out. Keenan started his big kid job and he likes it so far, which is all I could ever hope for. Plus it makes me feel better about being a real adult because I get to see him make the transition. Especially since I just applied for summer internships. And its freaking me out. So ya know, fingers crossed.
Till next time, peace out and remember Kevin Keatts is a winner.
