So after last semester, I really tried to take a break from school work and especially Threads since it took up so much of my time, but in honor of school starting back up again, I wanted to give a look at what the other designers created for the Threads Fashion Show!!

Designer: Daniel Aiello

Hometown: Raleigh, NC

Email: jdaiello@ncsu.edu

Collection Title: ;Art is Free

Note: Daniel is the winner of Threads this year!!

Daniel never imagined that he would be on his way to begin a career in the fashion industry, but he hopes to use his education and future industry experiences better the world around him. Daniel hopes to create practical methods of sustainable garment manufacturing to be used by major companies around the world. His dream is to one day begin a non-profit company aimed at providing work for those in need, as well as implementing sustainable practices and lead as an example for industry.

Collection:

Daniel’s collection, ;Art is Free, is aimed to use ready-to-wear street fashion to send a message promoting the awareness of suicide and depression among millennials. Drawing inspiration from the song “Agnes” by Glass Animals, the collection uses hand printed techniques on vinyl fabics to convey a story the struggle with depression many people endure. Using the lyrics of the song, certain elements and words are highlighted specifically to identify the effects of suicide and depression.

The semi-colon, which is frequently seen in each design, is the symbol of a movement started by Amy Bleuel, which promotes suicide and depression awareness. The semicolon is used by a writer at the end of a thought, but the writer decides that the sentence has not yet ended. Its symbolism relates to those who have attempted to take their life, but decided against it.

This concept is derived from the equation q=mcΔT, which is used to determine the heat energy gained or lost by a substance as it is heated or cooled. QMCAT reinterprets this equation in terms of human consumption: how much change is needed to restore the health of our oceans and mitigate the effects of climate change, ensuring a fair quality of life for future people? What expectations are realistic and inclusive?

QMCAT considers effective, circular fashion to encourage consumer recycling through either current behaviors or convenient alternatives. Using nonwoven textiles*, soft notions, and material-homogenous designs, this Fast-Fashion oriented collection is optimized for rapid Closed Loop Recycling and improving the environmental footprint of the most voraciously consumed apparel sector.
