Makai: Critique 1

If you were not aware, I am creating an athletic swimwear line for the Threads Senior Fashion Show at NC State College of Textiles. My collection is called Makai and recently I had my first critique. Critiques are like checkpoints, so I was suppose to have two of my looks completed or near completion by the time of the first critique.
My first look, which I have named Gianna, was created with triathletes in mind. The idea is that the sports bra and short set could act as a swimsuit or athletic top and short. Both are fully lined with swimwear lining and to top off the look, I decided to make a netted oversized hoodie that could act as a cover up. This hoodie is also very versatile and can be worn with other pieces. I particularly love it with my grey midi dress with platform sneakers.
After the critique, I am tackling a better way to finish the elastic edging and researching a way to prevent the shorts from riding up the wears thighs. I am looking into adding a grippy silicone edging to the bottom of the short to prevent any movement. I am also shortening the sleeves of the hoodie because after letting gravity stretch the netting (the cuffs are heavier than the sleeve) the sleeves stretched to a length that I am not happy with. I am also playing with the idea of breaking up the netted textile with either adding panels of other fabrics in the back or front.
The second look is named Feroce. Its a simple men's board short with a color blocking pieces. I am going to recut the shorts because the line is not as straight as I would like as well as the fit is still slightly off. I am also going to widen the waistband and possibly add top stitching. Because I feel like this look is lacking in substance, I want to add a netted vest, like in the Gianna look, but with red woven textile side panels and shoulder panels to break up the netted textile.
My next three looks are in the making! Keep an eye out on my Insta for updates and details.
