Youth Tonic: Trend Analysis

For our computer-aided design class, my team and myself are focusing on the Generation Z for our collection. In this collection, we each will make a design, as of right now we are all doing womenswear, that we see as the new autumn/ winter collection for 2016/17. We gathered most of our research from WGSN, a trend forecasting company, and micro influencers, bloggers or instagramers who have between twenty thousand to sixty thousand followers, since they have a larger impact on this generation due to their individuality. We wanted to capitalize on the "teen spirit" factor, with rebellious colors, like bubblegum pink and white for Fall, but are still keeping it dark with this year's top fall color, Fern Green, and a vibrant royal blue.
We did want to focus on the elite class of teenagers, sort of getting inspiration from our generation's Gossip Girl crew, so our design silhouettes are to have clean lines with high design in order to set them apart. We named each of our signature silhouettes in order to give this collection more of a Gossip Girl or Clique vibe. Our textile choices were mostly from trend reports that we discovered. Crushed velvet and fur are projected to be top fabric choicest this year, so in order to amp up our collection and give it a luxe vibe, we've decided that those will be our main accent fabrics. We also intend on using Neoprene to give the collection something different as well as mixing in basic cotton knits and wovens.
While a lot of work went into this, a lot of what we discussed is still subject to change, though we are pretty content with a lot of the color and fabric choices.
