Bikini Body

This past week, I traveled down to Wrightsville Beach, NC to vacation with my family. My cousin grew up on the area and she owns a beach house that she rents out and every year she give us a week to visit.

So we have been traveling down to Wrightsville every year since I was young and it is by far one of my favorite places to visit. We stay on the South End of the island, which is a little slower and a little older than the North End. It definatly shows the old surf spot side with quaint surf shops, biking, and mostly really old beach houses. Growing up with in this home was really special for me and coming back as an adult really changed some perspective for me.

When I was very young, I had no care in the world and I would swim all day. As I grew older, I enjoyed my time at the beach less and less. I grew very self conscious of being on the beach because I really despised wearing a swimsuit and going out in public. The beach was no longer a relaxing place to go swim, but a place of judgement. I was never considered over weight, I have a thyroid condition that made me thin growing up, but as I got older, I got curvier and I could never find swim suit that actually fit the girls. Swimming was a constant game of trying not to flash the beach overtime a wave came. Walking up and down the beach I became extremely aware of body. Every jiggle, every imperfection.

During my high school years, I would eat very little and I was apart of the cross country team, so I was also running roughly four miles a day, but I never felt like I was "thin" or "fit". I was never quite happy with

myself. It wasn't until I was in college that I finally started to feel comfortable with myself. I stopped denying myself food that I wanted (mac n cheese, duh.) and started exercising with the purpose of improving my body. While I may not be as small as my high school self, but I'm happier and stronger this way.

Part of why I decided to go into fashion was because I saw a major flaw in the fashion industry, clothing meant for all body types. Swimwear is a big part of that gap and I decided to tackle it in my senior collection. I wanted to design swimwear to take back the beach. Tops that actually fit, even when you move or get in the water. Bottoms for those that don't want to keep pulling and tugging.
